I've been blessed to have led a very dynamic, exciting and adventurous life. My professional career was in aerospace operations but I'm now retired to handyman work, travel, hobbies, and the endless and unsuccessful quest to understand women. I hope that brought a smile and not a frown; perhaps this is your first insight into my sense of humor. It helps to learn to laugh at oneself.
I worked as a NASA Systems Engineer working Shuttle flights in Mission Control, a USAF fighter pilot, a senior officer and wartime commander in Afghanistan, and led large teams running facilities and projects in Europe and Antarctica. I recently started a new job as president of a company that helps foreign entities transition into United States markets. They actually hired my resume as I was very clear that I had no intention of actually working other than to go to some meetings on occasion and press some flesh and smile for the cameras.
I was surrounded by death or the imminent threat of death most of my career and many of my stories have tragic elements. These experiences have shaped my perspectives on life, relationships and the fleeting nature of our time on earth. Always remember that we are all just walking each other home - find a way to be kind and forgive with all the grace and mercy you would hope to receive.
In retirement my enduring life desire is to be kind to ALL, even if doing so seems controversial to SOME, and to leave things better than I found them. I have learned to accept that Others may question my motives and choose to view situations through their own filters. Such is our human condition. All I can do is what I feel to be right, kind, and proper in the moment and situation.
